I just re-read my message (above) and I doesn't make sense what I meant was..... you need to have your piccy to be 11kb, I can only get mine to 109kb's what am I missing here

Hi Hazel,

If you use Ifran and when you select the Resize Screen, i.e. 'Ctrl + R' or under 'Image' > 'Resize/Resample' then you need to use the 'Set New Size' and just enter 100 pixels as this is the maximum size allowed. This will do it, if not mail me the pic and I will do it for you.

I don't understand Avatar at all - is that how you get the lovely little piccy of your dog (or whatever) to appear under your username when you post in this website? Sorry to be such a dunce! Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

OK, I'll try Rolling Eyes

What is an Avatar?

Quote:
Source: WordNet ® 2.0, © 2003 Princeton University

avatar
1. <chat, virtual reality> An image representing a user in a
multi-user virtual reality (or VR-like, in the case of
Palace) space.

Now that is out of the way how do you get one of these lovely piccies under your username because that is exactely what it is.

Step one:

Find the image that you have on your PC and use your favourite Image Editing Tool to resize the image, if you do not have a program to resize you can download a free tool from http://www.irfanview.com/

The image should not be bigger then 100 x 100 pixels. Open the image in your favourite editor and resize and save to your Desktop or other convenient location.

Then go to your Profile, you find this in the middle of the Menu above or just click here http://www.briards.org.uk/forum/profile.php?mode=editprofile

Scroll down to the area called: Avatar control panel

Click on the 'Browse' button and go to the location you saved your resized image and select image and click on 'Open'. You will now have something like C:\Documents and Settings\~~\Desktop\avatar.gif in the box next to the browse button.

Click on 'Submit' and you should see the message 'Your profile has been updated' Click on 'Profile' again and you should see your Avatar (aka Lovely Piccy!)

If the image is too big, i.e. more then 100 pixels in height or width you will get the message:

'The avatar must be less than 100 pixels wide and 100 pixels high'

If the image is more then 11K in size then you will get the message:

The avatar image file size must be less than 11 KB

Correct the problem reported and retry. If this still fails please e-mail me the image and I will upload it for you.

Hope this works for you. Please note we do not have a 'Galary' as I would like people to use their own pictures for this. As such the 'Galary' button does not show any Avatars.

WOW Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation
Thank you so much Paul for explaining this. I can hardly wait to get to my pc at home to try this all out. I think I understand your explanation now all I have to do is make it work! Will be in touch if I have probs - it's almost the weekend so I shall try to find the time to experiment.
Cheers,

Hi Paul,
Thank you so much. It took me a bit of time, but finally I downloaded Irfan and flipped between it and this forum site and succeeded in creating my avatar - this is the real "goody4paws" - ie, my first Briard, BoBo, who always managed to look as if butter would not melt in his mouth, no matter what mischief he was up to! Hence the nickname ... this photo was taken about six months before we lost him and, yes, he was clipped off - but still he was the handsomest boy to us. I'm severely challenged in the wrists these days and can't manage the really heavy duty brushing, but can't live without Briards either. So our dogs are clipped bi-annually which means I can cope with the less intensive brushing as a result.
Thanks again,
Kim Very Happy

Hi Michelle,

Photoshop is fine, this is what I use myself. The max size allowed is 100 x 100 pixels, the max file size is 18K at the moment.
