Hopefully in the near future we are having a fawn baby boy.

If you used a crate to house train your puppy, what size crate did you use??

Hi Carol

We got the largest you could get as they tend to use it as a bed in the long run - somewhere they can go to rest and get away from it all! When do you get your new puppy? Hope all goes well. Debbie and all at Debuet.

Big, I agree, I still have one up, in my dining room, Bo is 8 months old and is in it at night, and the day when I am out. She is fine. Its a safe place for them and your home too.

I would certainly recommend one. Even my older ones still love it, and often go in when the door is open for some rest and peace too. Smile

Thanks every one for the advice.

He is only 2 & 1/2 weeks old, we are going to see him in the next couple of weeks, then I'll give you all the details.
We are getting so excited, there are many names going round in our heads, and thinking about puppy proofing everything. We had forgotten how much you have to do, to get your home and garden to get ready for a new puppy, or should I say "The New BOSS". Laughing Laughing Laughing

OMG Carol so pleased to hear your news, a dog who could not wished for a more loving home, where are you getting him from. I know you had a good breeder before in John Webb, where will your next puppy come from, I hope a football lover will be one of the must haves.

Anyway no crate used in this house, Meadow was in our conservatory until it got too hot then we keep her in the hall, she has the hall, stairs and landing, she sleeps so much we have to shout at her on the stairs to wake her up, we have no chewing, no ripping up things etc,. So I look forward to your chat on Tuesday's and when your little boy goes to France with you so many more happy photo shoots.

Don't like them one bit, and only got one because we had issues with a rehomed irish terrier.
So we've finally managed to uncage him, and have the cage available if you wish to borrow it. It was the biggest I could find from pets at home.

Cheers
Mark

Hi Carol -what a joy for you - you must be SO excited! We first got a crate about 25 years ago as we were getting a new pup and were unsure how our existing large beardie and our very grumpy Westie might react. At that time it was very difficult to buy these things and I remember it cost a small fortune and we hoped it would not turn out to be a white elephant! In fact every puppy(Cool we have had since then has made it his/her home until at least 6-9months of age and obviously found it a secure place to be. Additionally it has been borrowed by many friends for their puppies and none has had anything but a happy animal. It has also been used for kittens and several injured cats so it is looking a bit tatty now but still works well as it is metal with a tray and does not suffer from chewing /biting damage.
Get the largest that will suit a full sized Briard and will fit in the chosen space in the house. This lets you give them an area with a blanket at the rear of the cage and then put a disposable baby changing pad by the front with a water dish as well - these mats are easy to pick up and get rid of and are cheaper than 'puppy pads' and less mucky than newspaper.
look forward to seeing the pics

Fantastic news Carol, how exciting for you both, I know nothing about crates we had a stair gate to keep her from wandering and weeing everywhere. We also had a sort of playpen type structure to keep her in one place. She soon found out that if she pushed against it that it would move, so that didn't last long either - bless.

Hi Carol

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Fabulous news Carol, can't wait to see the photos and hear the news. I am getting excited for you. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I echo everyone else and say the biggest crate. Just remember to introduce puppy carefully so not to scare him. Play with him in there and feed him there too so that he associates it with good things.
