Took Dillon to the vets last Friday as he was still panting very heavy even with the temperature cooler, he sounded like a stream engine going up a steep hill, it was heartbreaking listening to him. The vet check him over and said he wanted to do an x-ray could we take him back on Monday.
Went to get him at 4.30pm, the Vet said, it's not cancer, his liver, kidneys and heart are fine but his got Chronic Bronchitis both of his lungs they are completely blocked and the tubes to them are closing so his hardly getting any air, There is no cure just 2 tablets everyday for the rest of his life.

We are on day 5 with the tablets and his breathing seems a little easier so fingers crossed they are working.

Has anyone else had experience of a dog with Chronic Bronchitis ?

never had a dog with bronchitis but years ago my first Briard was bitten by we think a nest of young adders. he collapsed that night and couldn't breath. the vet managed to save him but his bronchial tube had collapsed completely. he was put on tablets (can't remember now what they were) but apart from not being able to wear a collar again he survived many years and led a happy lively life although the tablets had to continue - how many different ways can you get a tablet down their throat!!!

So think positive they are tough survivors, perhaps as he improves you will be able to cut the amount of tablets down

p.s does your vet know what caused him to get the problem in the first place?

best wishes to Dillon

took him back to the vets on Tuesday, he has not deteriorated any further and the vet has changed his tablets. Keeping our fingers crossed.
